Family and Relationship Counselling

Parenting

We are not necessarily trained on how to bring up children and we 'learn on the job' and do the best that we can. From the sleepless nights to teenage tantrums, nothing really trains us for this journey in our lives.

Balancing home, work, school runs, cooking, cleaning, and trying to split yourself into two is what I hear all the time from clients. Knowing how to deal with the teenager who doesn't want to talk to you, sex education, alcohol abuse and drugs, are just some of the agenda issues that you didn't fully appreciate when you signed up for having children!

Single Parents

Parenting as a couple is a challenge and parenting alone can be an even greater challenge with double the work but without double the help. Becoming a single parent is something most parents do not plan but circumstances can change in the family and the unexpected can happen to anyone.

You may also be coming to terms with a recent family breakdown and it is often the case that your feelings and emotional wellbeing ends up at the bottom of your list of priorities.

Second Time Around

You may be getting married for the second or third time, so there may be future step-children to consider in your daily life. Children from past relationships can be resentful of a new person coming into their life and may even see it as a possible threat to their existing relationship with their parent. They may think that they are going to be marginalised and no longer will they be the centre of their parent's life. It is not unusual to see temper tantrums at this stage or children wanting to take themselves out of the family circle.

Adoption / Same Sex Adoption

There will be some unique challenges that go with same sex adoptions that will need to be addressed. We are here to help you talk these issues through at the early stages prior to you deciding that you wish to have children.

I was going through an awful divorce and my solicitor suggested that I contact Carole. She helped me deal with my ex-wife and gave me ideas as to how to manage the children. We did this via email and Skype and I am indebted to her.
